What is cascara?

Cascara means "husk" or "peel" and refers to the dried skins of coffee cherries. During coffee processing, the beans are removed from the ripe cherries, leaving behind the fruit skins. Instead of going to waste, the skins can be carefully dried and used to prepare a delicious tea-like infusion.

Cascara is not coffee. It is a beverage made from the dried fruit surrounding the coffee bean, with its own distinctive fruity, floral and sweet character.

From Costa Rica's Central Valley

This cascara comes from a farm in the Alajuela area of Costa Rica's Central Valley, managed by farmers Alberto and Diego Guardia.

The farm sits at an altitude of 1,250 metres above sea level, where the region's mild climate and rich volcanic soils create favourable conditions for growing high-quality coffee.

Alberto and Diego Guardia focus on sustainable farming practices and continuously work to improve the quality of their production. The result is a cascara that showcases the natural sweetness and aromatic character of Costa Rican coffee cherries.
